SUMMARY:French Island - Beginner's Pack

 This overnight camping tri
 p will take us to French Island National Park\, an isolated coastal ecosys
 tem in the middle of Western Port Bay. With a population of 110\, few road
 s and only resident's cars\, French Island is a haven for migratory birds 
 and wildlife.
 After a drive or train to Stony Point\, we will catch the 
 ferry to the island before packing 5km along a sandy trail to Fairhaven Ca
 mpground. We will set up camp\, then explore the area with two x day walks
  over the weekend (with day packs only)\, before packing 5km back to the f
 erry on Sunday. The tracks are Grade 3\, including 2 x 5km walks with your
  full pack\, plus the two x day walks. The terrain is flat or undulating\,
  sandy\, with a few short\, steep climbs\, covering 14.6 and 9km across th
 e 1.5 days.
 The campground has drop toilets and a water tank\, but extra
  water may need to be carried in if the tank is dry. In the event of stron
 g winds\, the ferry can be cancelled at short notice\, so the trip will be
  weather-dependent.
 This is a fantastic opportunity to try packing and w
 e would love to help you with pulling together your camping gear\, getting
  some training underway\, and having a go at something outside your comfor
 t zone.
 As numbers/campsites are very limited\, we are opening this oppo
 rtunity to people experiencing their first pack (or first pack in a long t
 ime!)
