SUMMARY:Northern NSW-Warrumbungles & Mt.Kaputar National Parks
DESCRIPTION:{show accesslevels=\"Registered\"}
 Thirteen million years ago
 \, shaped by ancient volcanic activity the Warrumbungle and Kaputar ranges
  rise from NSW's Western Plains. The dramatic volcanic formations of the W
 arrumbungles offer fantastic hiking opportunities. The Grand High Tops wal
 k\, including the famous Breadknife is the signature walk for this area an
 d climbing Bluff Mountain offers breathtaking 360 degree views. Here are s
 ome examples of the walking opportunities: The Grand High Tops Circuit is
 14.5kms and Bluff Mountain is 16kms\, both these walks are rated Hard. Oth
 er walks will range from shorter walks under 10kms as well as easier walks
  to enjoy the parks diverse habitats. The Warrumbungles was declared Austr
 alia's first Dark Sky Park with fantastic star gazing. Hopefully we will b
 e able to book a tour at Siding Spring Observatory on one of our days in t
 he Park. Closest towns are Dubbo &amp\; Coonabarabran. By contrast Mt. Kap
 utar National Park is more remote\, with high basalt cliffs\, windswept pe
 aks that form \"sky islands\" each with unique ecosystems in a high-altitu
 de climate. Mt Kaputar walks are shorter\, rated Easy or Medium grade. We
 may even sight the rare 20cm pink Kaputar slug! Narrabri is our closest to
 wn for provisions.
 Logistics for travelling on this trip are many and v
 aried. We suggest some possibilities.&nbsp\;Plan A:&nbsp\;Fly direct from
 Melbourne to Dubbo on Friday 17th April\, pick up hire SUV vehicles. Retur
 n Monday 27th April fly direct Dubbo to Melbourne. Approximate cost\, $200
 0 including air fares\, vehicle hire\, accommodation.&nbsp\;Plan B:&nbsp\;
 This is for those who would like to make a more extended trip. If you driv
 e\, you will need a vehicle that is suitable to drive on rough/gravel road
 s\; SUV or tougher\, (no little cars).&nbsp\;&nbsp\;It's at least a solid
 2-day drive to Dubbo from Melbourne\, we would all meet in Dubbo on the 17
 th April to begin the adventure. Accommodation will be base-camping at the
  Warrumbungles &amp\; Kaputar with motel stays at the beginning (if requir
 ed) and ending of the trip in Dubbo. Participants will need to collaborate
  with each other managing the vehicle hire. Two large SUV's have been rese
 rved for the trip. Contact the leader (email preferred) for more informati
 on. If a member elects to drive\, there is the option of carpooling. For P
 lan A\, we have 10 places available\, Plan B\, more options for additional
  places.&nbsp\;
