SUMMARY:Mt Macedon Circuit Walk

 This is a 19 km MH circuit
  mostly on the Macedon Ranges Walking Trail.
 The walk offers varying ter
 rain\, roads\, fire tracks\, 4WD\, and single-file tracks. The forest is a
  mix of indigenous and exotic plants\, which provide pleasant walking. Fro
 m Douglas Road\, we commence the steep climb up the south face of Mt Maced
 on. The summit of Mt Macedon is now open after renovations\, but at the ti
 me of writing\, the Cross and cafe are still closed.&nbsp\; &nbsp\;
 Afte
 r passing McGregors picnic ground\, the track continues uphill to the high
 est point at Camels Hump. The steep cliffs seen through the trees are favo
 ured by rock climbers. The track then continues to Days picnic ground and 
 the lovely&nbsp\;Sanatorium Lake\, which was constructed around 1899 to su
 pply water to the tuberculosis&nbsp\;sanatorium located nearby.
 Leaving 
 the lake\, a steep descent down ZigZag track and Hemphills Track leads to 
 Mt Towrong. From the summit of Mt Towrong\, a second steep descent ensues 
 with the path twisting through forest\, then crossing a very steep rocky a
 rea. The forest opens out here to permit views across Mt Macedon before re
 suming its downwards trajectory back to the cars.
 The walk will take abo
 ut 7 hours with an elevation gain of over 700m.
 IMPORTANT:&nbsp\;There a
 re plenty of undulations and challenges that will give you your cardiac wo
 rkout for the day.
 Please wear proper hiking boots/shoes with good tread
 . Hiking poles are highly recommended if used.

 ad turning left from Mt Macedon Road. There is a side area off the road fo
 r parking.
 Meet at 8.30am for an 8.45am start.
 Please arrange car pool
 ing yourself once bookings close. Carpooling fee $15.
