SUMMARY:Lerderderg State Park: Pyrete Forest\, Pyrites Creek
DESCRIPTION:{show accesslevels=\"Registered\"}
 This challenging but rewar
ding 15.5 km loop walk\, on the hard end of Medium Grade\, visits a quiet
section of Lerderderg State Park\, passing remnants of historic antinomy m
ining activity. The walk climbs and descends some 500 meters\, taking abou
t 7 hours to bush bash off track through scrubland\, dry open woodlands\,
gullies\, rocky creek beds and short sections of foot pads and old 4WD tra
cks. There are short sections of very steep terrain and most of the walk i
s on very uneven ground. There is a wire mesh bridge crossing that is not
for the faint hearted – you need to be comfortable walking across a wobb
ly structure that you can see through which is about 3 m above the creek b
ed. While the creek was dry when the walk was scouted in February there ma
y be more water in the creek in April\, meaning we would get wet feet due
 to the many creek crossings.
The walk starts and ends at Pyrete Range ca
r park\, though there is limited parking. We will meet at 8 am in Toolern
Vale\, at the car park opposite the general store\, where there is a good
amount of parking and a newly built public toilet. We will carpool from To
olern Vale to the start of the walk\, aiming to start walking by 8.30 am.

Long pants or gaiters are recommended due to frequently pushing though s
crub. Walking poles are also recommended due to extensive uneven ground an
d several\, short but steep\, climbs and descents.
 No toilets are availa
ble at the start/end of the walk or on the walk.
 Please arrange carpooli
ng to the Toolern Vale meeting point yourself once the booking date closes
 . Carpooling fee $10.
