SUMMARY:Picnic at Hanging Rock

 Following the cancellation
  of the club's annual picnic in January due to extreme heat\, the picnic h
 as been reimagined and will now be held on Saturday 9 May at the enigmatic
  and iconic Hanging Rock! We have hired the South-West picnic shelter\, ta
 bles and seating and BBQ facilities\, so the&nbsp\;picnic can proceed rega
 rdless of the weather. There are toilets near the shelter.
 We have retai
 ned the theme of “I MADE IT MYSELF!” Members are invited to bring a sm
 all item they made or produced themselves for display at the picnic\, be i
 t a preserve\, pot\, plant\, photograph\, art or craft\, with a prize awar
 ded to the maker of the item judged most inventive or simply most wonderfu
 l.&nbsp\;Other activities will include an optional walk leaving from the S
 outh-West picnic shelter at 11.40am for the Hanging Rock summit (2km\, 50m
 ins return)\, a mostly paved\, gentle climb progressing to short steep sec
 tions and rocky steps towards the summit. There are also the options of a 
 half-summit walk or a stroll across the reserve to view the displays at th
 e Discovery Centre. After lunch there will be a game of Finska\, followed 
 by a delicious afternoon tea provided by the Socials Committee.

 d thermos of hot water for afternoon tea.&nbsp\;
 Getting there:&nbsp\;Ha
 nging Rock reserve is 73 km from Melbourne via minor roads but the quickes
 t and easiest route is via the Calder Freeway/M79. Take the C324 exit towa
 rds Lancefield/Romsey and then the C322/South Rock Road to the reserve ent
 rance (Racecourse Rd). After entering the reserve through the boom gate\, 
 immediately turn left to park at the Southwest picnic shelter\, near the t
 ennis courts. Alternatively you can drive to Woodend\, park at Woodend Rai
 lway Station and get a lift to Hanging Rock (see below).&nbsp\;
 Public t
 ransport&nbsp\;is available via V/line train to Woodend (Bendigo line)\, l
 eaving Southern Cross at 10.02am\, Footscray at 10.10am and Sunbury at 10.
 35am\, arriving Woodend at 11.04am. The return train leaves Woodend at 15.
 23pm. Drivers will be arranged to take passengers to and from Hanging Rock
 .&nbsp\;
 Carpooling:&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Hanging Rock car parking fee is $15 pe
 r vehicle\, so every effort will be made by the Socials Committee to organ
 ise carpooling either from Melbourne. ($30 per passenger return\, payable 
 to the driver\, which includes contribution to parking fee) or Woodend Rai
 lway Station ($10 per passenger return\, payable to the driver\, which inc
 ludes contribution to parking fee) to minimise cost to attendees. The park
 ing ticket is required to exit the reserve and can be purchased during the
  day at the ticket kiosk near the cafe.&nbsp\;
